Each week there are dozens of scifi, fantasy, and other speculative fiction audiobooks released. I highlight the most talked about and/or interesting looking ones from that week. The first person to correctly identify which 4 books below I took the key words in the title from will get a virtual shout-out in next week's post & tweet. (I'm doing this to try and make it more fun for me to improve my titles.)

How to Hang a Witch (Book #1)
By: Adriana Mather / Narrator: the author / Pub: Listening Library / Length: 10:41
"Salem, Massachusetts is the site of the infamous witch trials and the new home of Samantha Mather. Recently transplanted from New York City, Sam and her stepmother are not exactly welcomed with open arms. Sam is the descendant of Cotton Mather, one of the men responsible for those trials and almost immediately, she becomes the enemy of a group of girls who call themselves The Descendants. And guess who their ancestors were?
If dealing with that weren't enough, Sam also comes face to face with a real live (well technically dead) ghost. A handsome, angry ghost who wants Sam to stop touching his stuff. But soon Sam discovers she is at the center of a centuries old curse affecting anyone with ties to the trials. Sam must come to terms with the ghost and find a way to work with the Descendants to stop a deadly cycle that has been going on since the first accused witch was hanged. If any town should have learned its lesson, it's Salem. But history may be about to repeat itself."

By: Martin Stewart / Narrator: James Cosmo / Pub: Listening Library / Length: 12:37
"The Danék is a wild, treacherous river, and the Fobisher family has tended it for generations—clearing it of ice and weed, making sure boats can get through, and fishing corpses from its bleak depths. Wulliam’s father, the current Riverkeep, is proud of this work. Wull dreads it. And in one week, when he comes of age, he will have to take over.
Then the unthinkable happens. While recovering a drowned man, Wull’s father is pulled under—and when he emerges, he is no longer himself. A dark spirit possesses him, devouring him from the inside. In an instant, Wull is Riverkeep. And he must care for his father, too.
When he hears that a cure for his father lurks in the belly of a great sea-dwelling beast known as the mormorach, he embarks on an epic journey down the river that his family has so long protected—but never explored. Along the way, he faces death in any number of ways, meets people and creatures touched by magic and madness and alchemy, and finds courage he never knew he possessed."

Dragon’s Gift: The Huntress, Book #1: Ancient Magic
By: Linsey Hall / Narrator: Laurel Schroeder / Length: 7 hrs
"I’m good at two things: finding treasure and killing demons. Lying low is a close third—but not because I want to be good at hiding. I have to be. I’m a FireSoul, one of the unlucky few to inherit a piece of the dragon’s soul. Being born with the dragon’s covetousness should be a sweet gig - I have the power to find and steal any type of treasure, including the powers of other supernaturals.
But it doesn’t come without a price - stealing powers requires that I kill, and others would destroy me if they discover what I am. In a world full of magic, hiding my species is the only way to survive. Finding magical artifacts is the only way to pay the bills. It’s a dangerous job when you can barely use your magic, but that’s one of the things I like about it."
Kid Sensation, Book #3: Infiltration
By: Kevin Hardman / Narrator: Mikael Naramore / Length: 7:43
"Having a surfeit of super powers is great for battling bad guys and saving the world, as Jim (aka Kid Sensation) is finding out, but less useful in dealing with day-to-day situations - like bonding with his superhero father, adjusting to a team environment, and coping with what might be perceived as a growing rivalry between himself and another teen super. On top of all that, despite having a serious girlfriend, he finds himself inexplicably drawn to a new female super he's just met.
At the same time, some villain has just gotten himself a new toy: an unknown weapon of tremendous power that is able to strike without warning, causing unprecedented destruction and loss of life. Perhaps more terrifying, the wielders of this weapon make no demands and issue no threats; they simply attack. Even the Alpha League, the world's greatest superhero team, is not immune, suffering an assault on their very own doorsteps."
Meta, Book #3: Rise of the Circle
By: Tom Reynolds / Narrator: Kirby Heyborne / Pub: Tantor Audio / Length: 12:11
"As metahumans emerge throughout the world, some greet them as saviors while others see them as a threat to humanity itself. A group of elite soldiers come into possession of the most powerful metabands seen yet, with the ability to destroy what was thought to be indestructible: the metabands themselves.
With the destruction of the Silver Island Metahuman Detention Facility, Bay View City goes into total lockdown. Alpha Team impose their protection, but at a price: the complete and total ban of metahumans within the city. Refusal to follow is punishable by execution.
Forced to leave the city he calls home, Connor is given a second chance at an elite prep school across the bay, one with a very big secret. "
