New Releases

Each week there are dozens of scifi, fantasy, and other speculative fiction audiobooks released. I highlight the most talked about and/or interesting looking ones from that week. The first person to correctly identify which 3 books below I took the key words in the title from will get a virtual shout-out in next week's post & tweet. (I'm doing this to try and make it more fun for me to improve my titles.)

The Heritage of Shannara, Book #3: The Elf Queen of Shannara

By: Terry Brooks / Narrator: John Lee / Pub: Random House Audio / Length: 15:30

"Find the Elves and return them to the world of Men!" the shade of the Druid Allanon had ordered Wren. It was clearly an impossible task. The Elves had been gone from the Westland for more than a hundred years. There was not even a trace of their former city of Arborlon left to mark their passing. No one in the Esterland knew of them - except, finally, the Addershag. The blind old woman had given instructions to find a place on the coast of the Blue Divide, build a fire, and keep it burning for three days. "One will come for you.

Tiger Ty, the Wing Rider, had come on his giant Roc to carry Wren and her friend, Garth, to the only clear landing site on the island of Morrowindl, where, he said, the Elves might still exist, somewhere in the demon-haunted jungle. Now she stood within that jungle, remembering the warning of the Addershag: "Beware, Elf-girl. I see danger ahead for you...and evil beyond imagining." It had proved all too true."

One who can steal a soul with a simple strain of music.

When the chance arises to keep an eye on Kate, who's just been kicked out of her sixth boarding school and returned home, August jumps at it. But Kate discovers August's secret, and after a failed assassination attempt the pair must flee for their lives."

Black Fleet Trilogy, Book #3: Counterstrike

By: Joshua Dalzelle / Narrator: Mark Boyett / Pub: Podium Publishing / Length: 8:18

"Captain Jackson Wolfe never thought he’d see the end of the Phage War in his lifetime. The enemy was too powerful, too numerous, and utterly determined to exterminate humanity.

But the appearance of a new ally in the fight has changed all of that. For the first time since the original incursion Wolfe thinks that maybe there’s a chance to stop their implacable enemy before they have the chance to wipe out any more human planets. That opportunity comes at great cost, however, and even as he makes plans for their first offensive move on the Phage, Jackson is all too aware that most of them will not survive."
