Dear Audiobook Producers: I Really Want These | Top Ten Tuesday

**Today's List: All About Audio freebie**

Top Ten Tuesday

Top Ten Tuesday, hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, “was created because we are particularly fond of lists here at The Broke and the Bookish. We'd love to share our lists with other bookish folks and would LOVE to see your top ten lists!”

Since pretty much all of my list posts are about audiobooks anyway, I decided to do something slightly different this time. I am doing a variation on the prompt, "10 books I want to listen to on audio." These are books I want to listen to on audio, but can't since they aren't available. I am cheating by including series & authors as well as individual books. Please note: some of the cover images aren't very good, since these are mostly older books. And many of them aren't even available as ebooks.

1) Phule’s Company & Phule's Paradise by Robert Asprin

Robert Asprin is probably best known for his Myth Adventures novels (which are available on Audible, you're welcome*), but they aren't my favorites of his.

These two books are so much fun. I think they would be great fun for a narrator also, since there are so many different types of characters. And despite the full on humor, there are still bits of heart as well.  Note: The remaining books in this series were a sad disappointment.

*When ACX was first announced, I contacted the authors/representatives of all my favorite books and asked them to check it out. Mr. Asprin's people were very interested, and the next thing I knew the Myth books were announced (but this series never was).

2) More books by Alan Dean Foster

Audible Studios has already produced all of the Pip & Flinx books, but ADF has written many more books in the same Universe (as well as outside it). My favorite is Nor Crystal Tears, which is the one that tells how it all began. It is an excellent first contact novel with a wonderful alien protagonist.

3) Everything by H.M. (Helen Mary) Hoover

One of the early pioneering women of SF, that fact that only one of her books* is available on Audible is a true shame. I chose The Lost StarThe Rains of Eridan to feature because they are the ones I reread most frequently.

*The Dawn Palace, a non-SF book, listed under Helen Hoover

4) The Ghost and the Goth trilogy by Stacey Kade

The newest books on my list, I have never understood why they aren't more popular (and why they haven't been made into one of those cute made-for-TV teen movies).

 5) More Unabridged books by Anne McCaffrey

I enjoyed some of the Pern books, but they aren't my favorites. This is a selection of the books I most want unabridged.

6) Shatterglass by Tamora Pierce

This is the most frustrating book on my list. I already own all 4 audiobooks in the first quartet, plus the first two in this one, but they never produced the last two. The one just before this was my least favorite, so I don't care about it, but this one was my favorite of all of them (including the later ones, which are also out).

7) The Legend of Nightfall by Mickey Zucker Reichert

This is a very engrossing and complex fantasy that is all about character (my preference) without skimping on action & plot. Although there is a sequel (which was published much later), it is completely able to standalone.

8) More books by Robert Silverberg

Although it isn't among his most well know works, Across a Billion Years, is a fun alien archeology novel that I feel would make an excellent audiobook (with the right narrator, who can do all the alien voices, of course). [This is an older book with some backwards attitudes towards women.]

9) The Sunstone Scrolls trilogy by Sydney J. Van Scyoc

This is an excellent YA SciFi Fantasy series from the 80's that I feel would appeal to many of today's readers.

10) More books by Patricia C Wrede

Mairelon the Magician is my favorite of all her books, and is not yet available on audio. Her "Cecelia and Kate" series and several standalones are also unavailable.
