I Just Keep Swimming | Sunday Summary #17

I continued to struggle a bit this week, but followed Dory's advice.

The Sunday Post, hosted by Kimba @Caffeinated Book Reviewer, is a chance to share News. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

Caution: Her site has sidebar ads that sometimes contain cover images which may be offensive to some.

I still wasn't feeling very well this week, so while I managed not to fall further behind on my blogging, I didn't catch up any either. I had been really struggling with my upcoming Twitter post before I finally decided how I am going to manage it. I did fairly well on my Bout of Books goals... (here's a link so you can skip straight to my wrap-up below if you want to).

One happy piece of news is that my efforts to learn Twitter, and my participation in BoB, pushed my Twitter follower count above 100 and my overall count above 300 (just barely). And while I am now focusing on non-statistical goals, I couldn't help feeling like my stats were terribly stuck before.

Exploring Cyberspace

"Possibly the hardest thing I’ve ever done is ask someone I love if they were thinking of killing themselves.  When they responded, “I don’t know,” I took them to the hospital.  Things didn’t get better right away, but they did get better.  Medication and counseling have improved their life so suicide no longer seems like the only way out of the pain.  Honest conversations have allowed us to explain that we can handle supporting them through their tough times, but we couldn’t handle losing them forever.  Still, the possibility haunts me."
"I want to be outraged about this. I want to be furious that SFF writers seem to have an easier time imagining faster-than-light travel than they do imagining a world in which sexual assault isn’t a constant threat. I want to yell at authors to give their female characters more interesting, dynamic arcs. I want to climb up onto my soapbox and ask why it is that female characters can be subject to sexual violence but not physical violence; and then I want to answer my own question with my lips on the microphone: it’s because beating a woman is taboo, but raping her isn’t."

"Audiobooks

On the one hand, audiobooks are a great way to get through your reading list while driving, doing things around the house, etc. And if you’re doing other activities while listening to an audiobook, the chances of falling asleep certainly dissipate!

The downside: On the other hand, if you’re not doing something else while listening, your chances of falling asleep to an audiobook are just as high, if not higher, as your chances of falling asleep reading with your eyes."

Reading Update

Disclosure: Clicking & making a purchase from any section below may result in a small commission for me.

I participated in Bout of Books 17 this week. I didn't finish all 6 books that were on my ambitious TBR (I knew I probably wouldn't). And sadly, the book I didn't get to was one of the ones I was most anticipating; but it isn't even out on audio yet, so it had lowest priority. Calamity was the 2nd series finale I've read recently! Blogging may turn out to be good for me in that way.

Wishlist Purchases

I had a $10 coupon from Audible, which I used to purchase these books. Most of them I got with a Whispersync deal; but the Coville is an inexpensive short.
